PHOENIX - A $15 million jury award against "Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has pushed his comic-book business into bankruptcy court.

Todd McFarlane Productions Inc. of suburban Tempe filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

A jury in St. Louis awarded former NHL player Tony Twist $15 million after concluding that McFarlane and his company profited by using Twist's name without permission and that Twist's publicity rights were infringed.

McFarlane gave the name Antonio "Tony Twist" Twistelli to a New York mob boss character in his "Spawn" comic books in the early 1990s.

The U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) in January rejected without comment an appeal by McFarlane arguing that his work was free speech.

Last year, he said his McFarlane Cos., then an umbrella of seven businesses, had annual sales exceeding $50 million.

The bankruptcy filing allows McFarlane's company to continue to operate and reorganize its finances while freeing it from the threat of creditors' lawsuits.

In 1999, McFarlane paid $3 million for Mark McGwire's 70th home-run baseball. He also paid $450,000 last year for Barry Bonds' record 73rd home-run ball and owns Sammy Sosa's 66th home-run ball.

my resignation

i never really felt like i belonged to this group, i just happened to be the girl that ben was making out with. i don't have any super-powers and don't feel like making up any crap that sounds like a bad translation from japanese.

anyway, i feel like an intruder during action tuesdays/thursdays and wasn't any happier in high school than i am now, which is to say pretty miserable, so i don't feel any pressing need to remember that part of my life with you.

Drunken Memories

Ah, such great times are those they begin with "Do you rememer when we were drinking and...." .

Anyway, I've seen Helen drunk, we've all seen Sione drunk, and the rest of us have been at least semi-buzzy-drunk. So what I suggest is this. In the very near future, we all gather and drink, drink, and drink a wee-bit more until we are all very much drunk. and then we take pictures, if we can find a camera to commerate the occasion!

Who are you bringing to Action Thursday 9-30?

Whoa! My B-day is on an Action Thursday! How cool is that? We can always reloacte to the U-District and take advantage of the cheap PBR at McFinns or something if we don't go to Temple, but Temple really does sound kewl.

Anyway, bring people. Over half of my invites are looking at the invite but are not saying Yay or Nay or even a f-ing maybe. What up with that? Espcially the one's I sent an E-vite too.

Sione, find out if Neal wants in on this action. He can bring his woman. In fact, all of you bring your woman if you want. I few of mine will be there, hopefully.

Ben's birthday report

Ben's birthday seems to have been a mild success! Apparently we cleared the money mark we needed to make. We had just enough random friends and affiliates show up, that there was hardly any money needed to pay the tab.

They were really relieved by how polite our crowd was, and they found us to be relatively low stress to work with. Some of them even wanted to hang out with us afterwards!

They'll let us throw another show if we want to.

Good job Rangers. Mission accomplished. We even unlocked an extra level.

Ben, I hope your birthday was fun!

Action Someday

Rangers,

We seem to have ourselves in a quandary. Many of us have professed that we all love Action Thursdays, yet most of us have stated that we are rarely available on Thursday. It is imperative that our group constantly fellowship, yet Thursday is getting harder and harder to accomplish.

What say we move this to a different day? With the Green rangers Ultra-mega birthday bash in the planning stages, I say we need Many, massive, mapped out, madcap meetings of mirth! This is ancestral, Alcoholic association, absolutely! Assinine assumptions aside, dare we ask about another different, anticipated day? Answer DEEviously....

Action Ranger Meeting Minutes

In the meeting, we discussed the upcoming birthday of the green ranger and the locale of the old "sit n spin", which is now called the ______________, being the location for the birthday affair. The general consensus was that the action rangers are against pollution, which is why I would always get mad if someone wanted to throw trash out my car windows. A few other non-ranger topics were discussed, zippos were distributed to the rangers and then the meeting was adjourned. (By the by, i fell asleep in my car so sorry I couldn't make it to green ranger's house.)

Action Ranger Manifesto

The Action Rangers started one day when John, Nathaniel and I (and later Brian) got a hair up our collective asses and decided that we needed to form a sort of Kung-fu super team. (If the Power Rangers could get a movie gig, imagine what WE would be capable of.) From then on we would fight crime wherever we saw it. Most of the time we didn't see any. In retrospect, thwarting evil in a lazy seattle suburb may have been a tad ambitious, but we didnt care. We were young, and in it for the glory.

Our "missions" consisted of going to taco bell and watching cartoons on Johns portable TV. Our arsenal(tm) consisted of our Mighty plastic "Action" swords ($2.99 @ toys r us) and tiny effigies of ourselves in "action mode". The neat thing about these action figures was that they were made in Korea, so the packaging had terrible translations on the back about what each Action Rangers role was on the team. (See also: Kaiju Big Battel)

In all seriousness, I guess it was sort of an excuse to be a living parody of a really awful childrens show. Imagine yourself in a Godzilla movie for a better understanding of what hanging out with us was like. Are you ready to fight crime yet ? Good.

If you would like to be an action ranger, then please feel free to apply for membership. Include what color ranger you are, and what your poorly translated, crime fighting tag-line will be. At the time of this writing, there are 4 colors that will not be considered. They are as follows:

Black,
Red,
White,
and Green.

And unless you'd like to be the Perriwinkle Ranger, I'd suggest you send in your application in a timely fashion. First come, first served.

I say this with a great sense of respect and acknowledgement, but where would we be without Taco Bell. I know for a fact that none of us would have made it this far in life without this important insitution.

Cheap food, good jokes, and swell times only enrichened our lives and made us stronger as a super hero group.

And now my friends, we have a new reason to return.

I dare you, I challenge you, I encourage each of you to go to a near by Taco Bell as soon as fuckin possible and buy your 7 layer or your steak grilled gordito(sp?). Whatever your choice, you must stop by and grab a handful of hot sauce packets.

Then, my friends, you will know why I have written this. If you already know, then this is just another joke that I had to solve on my own.
